For the past few years, Phil Wilson, Dale Huck and Bill Horman of our Rotary Club have organized a full Christmas dinner for the students of Bayview School, with help from our community. This year 192 students were served dinner by 25 Rotarians and 12 spouses. Fairview Market donated the potatoes, carrots, corn, cranberry sauce and mandarin oranges for the dinner. Rotary supplied the turkeys and the chef at John Barsby cooked them. Mrs. Riches cooked the vegetables and Rotary spouses baked a variety of cookies for dessert. Rotarians set up tables complete with tablecloths, knives, forks and glasses. All students were served dinner in 15 minutes. Rotarians circulated with milk and cookies for the students.
After dinner Rotarians dismantled the tables and cleaned up the gymnasium and kitchen. They were then treated to a Christmas concert by the students of Bayview School. Students made thank you notes and distributed them to Rotarians and their spouses.
Rotary put together a take home bag for each student to take home, that included toothpaste donated by Johnson Drugs, toothbrush donated by Cathy Anderson and a Children’s book donated by Literacy Nanaimo.
